Parks:

The City of California has four beautiful parks for residents & visitors to enjoy and use. Proctor Park has a walking area, frisbe golf, fishing, tennis courts, sand volleyball, shelters with barbe-que pits and rest rooms. There are also several play areas for children.

Railroad Park | Smith-Burke Park | City Park

  • Railroad Park - Railroad Park is located where the old railroad depot once stood. It now provides an open-air shelter and is decorated with period lighting, and native flowers and bushes.

  • Smith-Burke Park - A three story dwelling that was built over 100 years ago as a Union Pacific Railroad Hotel stood in ruins in the middle of California. It was in total disrepair and unfortunately beyond restoration. California Progress, Inc. purchased the building, razed the structure, and designed, financed, and constructed a new park in its place. The small park covers less than a city block along the north side of Versailles Avenue across from the Wood Place Library and Distance Learning Center, and west from the City Hall building. It is beautifully landscaped with terraced plantings of colorful bushes and flowers, a water sprinkling system, a small gazebo, picnic tables, aggregate sidewalks, period lighting, and benches which offer a pleasing place to sit and take in the view.

  • City Park - California's oldest park, is recently improved to include two full basketball courts and tennis courts. It lies along Highway 50 one block east of the junction of Highways 50 and 87.
